Uh, now for no clear reason, since last few days, even Mint Linux has been doing the same thing as Ubuntu does from the moment it is installed: freezing sporadically for seconds at a time, frequently enough that the experience is more annoying than productive.

And finally it completely froze, forcing me to power the laptop down. Since ZFS isn't available on this system, I'm starting it back up with much anxiety. Let's hope it doesn't pull an Ubuntu on me and refuse to boot after a single crash

Hooray! It started back up! *phew*

@hiway Firefox will cause that

@GoatsLive @hiway If that happens it's buggy GPU drivers not Firefox. A userspace application not running as root does not have the power to freeze the system.

@dalias @GoatsLive I don't know/understand Linux enough to comment on that, but will keep this in mind since I do use Firefox and I have no idea how well this Intel integrated GPU is supported (Thinkpad X280 from ~2019)

@sullybiker ah, I never considered that!

I'll also try to observe when the sporadic freezes begin again (nothing in the few minutes since last boot) and see if I can find any correlation with apps I'm running.

@hiway quick way to verify this would be to switch over to the virtual terminals (or ssh) and see if the system still is frozen?

@ni_nad will try that next time!
