LRToot: I didn’t even realize quote boosts and non-hashtag searching weren’t a thing here and I’m so grateful now that I know???

obvi quotes have utility, but I don’t...need them, they’re often Performancey. And BLESS THE LACK OF NON-TAGGED TERMSEARCHING

NO TERMSEARCHING RABBLEROUSERS, HALLELUJAH

@honestlyjon you'll get used to just posting "LRT:" immediately after reposting things again, don't worry

@irisjaycomics it’s a great way to continue a thread without unnecessarily getting all up into the OP’s life

@honestlyjon the more I learn about this place, the more I wonder why no one else thought to do this. Content warnings ALONE is a selling point

@Firehawk32 strong anti-harassment, instances run and curated by people, a lot of unnecessary features stripped away, like: Good

@honestlyjon you don’t stop to think how stifling the “features” of bird site are until you get here and realize you don’t need them

@honestlyjon yeah the consensus was basically that people just use quote-RTs to rag on people and sure they can screencap but we don't need to facilitate that behavior. On a more theoretical level, quote-RTs, tumblr reblog captions, etc. promote a culture of talking *about* people and we wanted to promote a culture of talking *to* people. (i'm one of the former devs who pushed for this haha)

@shel this is super cool and considerate, thank you!

@honestlyjon The other thing that Isn't A Thing -- that it took make AGES to notice it, and after some "huh" thoughts, I think I like the dynamic it sets up -- is that you only get notifications about your own toots.

Like, if you look through your notifications, there's nothing about "<person> favorited your boost" or "<person> boosted your boost" or anything.

@gaditb I did notice this today (so much less clutter) and for it I am thankful

@honestlyjon I don't know how much it actually doing any influencing what I/people do, but I really like the idea, at least, of "you only get social-media-skinner-box-rewarded for things you write, not for Finding/Spreading Good-or-Spreadable Things.
