Ah, MMidwaidwag Cog company, I remember these guys. They made some cool games.

@sydneyfalk @djsundog Okay I wrote that last toot and then went back to work and this WHOLE TIME I've been thinking about how everyone (NO EVERYONE) was getting in on the computer thing in the early 80's, and how Philips and Panasonic tried to make games consoles in the early CD-ROM days, and how it's actually not all that improbable that an actual cog company could have seen all the money going into computers and gone "pfft, can't be that hard"

@sydneyfalk @djsundog and those thoughts have given rise to IDEAS about how things could have gone so differently with just the slightest little nudge (I had a Binatone TV game once, a Pong ripoff made by an English company that made crap telephones), and now I very much want to make a Museum of Never Was, showing an alternate-history console war

@sydneyfalk @djsundog I wanna make working consoles (probably with just, like, Raspberry Pi guts) that pretend to have been made by Dunlop or Amstrad or Goodmans or Lucky Goldstar, and let people play them at a future ReplayFX festival. WEIRD consoles, like maybe the Kenwood one could have 3 CDs in at once via a CD changer mechanism.

@sydneyfalk @djsundog Maybe the Acorn-16 could have a subscription service where you can tape games off a 24/7 radio station, as many as you want for a monthly fee - the machine would have two tape decks, and once a month you'd get a decryption tape in the mail which you would play at the same time as loading the program you'd taped off the radio

@sydneyfalk @djsundog Maybe there could be a German-engineered woodgrain wonder that loaded games off tiny little records. Maybe a sleek white Swiss console with credit-card-sized cartridges. Actual real-life computer game history is already so weird that nearly anything is plausible. I really wanna do this now.
