So… look.

My Framework laptop arrived today, which I've been really excited about. I sat here with the box, looked over to the cupboard of photography equipment I have, then back to the box… and said “fuck it”.

Here follows the most grossly overdone set of unboxing photos I've ever done.

I ordered the DIY edition with no RAM, storage, or OS. It came with the top case and the bezel not installed, and the port modules I configured in a cute little box.

When you get the laptop out and open it, it looks like this (since the top case is separate).

The insides are full of QR codes to installation guides and easy-to-read labels.

Once you've got the RAM and storage in, it's time to put the top case on. It snaps in place with magnets, then there are captive screws from the back to fix it in place.

Since Framework doesn't sell or ship to Sweden (I used a re-shipper), I ordered the blank keyboard in lieu of one with the "wrong" layout on it. If they do end up adding it later, I can just get a new keyboard.

Then, the bezel snaps onto the screen with magnets (you can choose which colour you want) and bam! Laptop!

Oops, don't forget to choose your ports!

Unboxing epilogue:

One of the things I *love* about photography how creative you can be with not a lot of stuff. This is a photo of my setup — a desk with a single flash (with a grid attached) above it. I left all of the room's lights on while I was working - what you see is exactly the environment the photos were taken in.

And they came out looking so different!

(The key is that the flash is so much brighter, the ambient light doesn't contribute much to the final photo).

Unboxing epilogue epilogue:

That desk I used to take the photos is *my* desk at the office. My work computer became “portable" in the meantime - practically a laptop!

@ikenndac That wallpaper paired with a silver tower Mac made me double-check what year it is 😂

@ikenndac Great photos, Daniel! Love the lighting.
