The number of people here who have no idea what is going on is a bit disappointing.
So, some things:
There is no verification. You can put ✅ in your name if you feel like it, it means absolutely nothing.
There are no cross-server rules, that would require a centralised authority which goes completely against the point of what federation does.
@grainne it isn't that they don't understand so much as how many new people assume they are the first ones here and that everything is new and must be worked out by them.

@inmysocks There are some people who are using the ✅ to designate which instance they're currently on. But there isn't a real reason for it yet.

@inmysocks i think some people are using the check to consistently mark which instance/identity they are using at a given time. that may stop as people settle into one instance/identity.
@inmysocks I don't think its disappointing - don't you remember not understanding things and figuring them out? It doesn't have to be completely clear to everybody all at once. Its ok that it isn't all figured out. Who has any idea whats going on???
