'I am not going to listen to you' isn't censorship.

'This group of people who agrees with me is also not going to listen to you' is also not censorship.

Agreed, but at the same time, there are admins who just go and add everything in dzuk's blocklist advisory without doing their own research.

Something something trust but verify.

@kaniini but that is an argument about agreeing with an admin, not about blocklists.

@inmysocks

yes. i'm just saying that blanket agreement with others is bad. an instance admin who is going to the trouble of blocking other instances, should be 100% damned sure they are making the right decision. i feel like instance blocklists become tools to incubate more strife and drama, and are rarely used for the right purpose.

if an instance is filled with those who are advocating things that are unacceptable, yes, blocking them is probably a good solution.

if an instance has a user who said something not very nice, then it should be dealt with in a gentle way instead of creating a network partition and then creating a huge discourse

@inmysocks Who said that group of people agrees with you? Have you informed them that you will be preventing them from seeing xyz content?

@faissaloo that is at best a straw man argument. I said that there isn't something wrong with collaborative block lists. If you don't trust the admin than don't use the instance.

@inmysocks Sure, but admins have a responsibility to make it clear to their users that they do censor people's content so that people can make the choice not to use that instance.

@faissaloo yes, that is true. I haven't said anything about that.
