I am still working over the feedback I got regarding the roles we need to fill, but mostly it's about what roles you all want to fill. And you can do it by doing the work.
After the 1st of May, we will know how much disposable income will be available to us from the Patreon. And what we can use to give back to you all.
Anyone got any tips for good bug-bounty systems?
Can we just add them ontop of github? #needhelp
Do you have any obsolete Bitcoin mining equipment you want to be rid of?
I am starting a mining farm for wayward miners in Arkansas.
Contact me if you want to send your equipment off to live on a farm.
Based on some things I am already hearing regarding v1.3, some advice.
As an admin, there is no need to be on the bleeding edge of upgrades.
Always test updates on a dev server.
Just my 2 bits.
Mastodon Tips:
1. You can send a DM by clicking the little globe and switching it to "direct"
2. You can set a content warning on toots, which makes their text hidden until the reader chooses to expand it
3. You can use the connections you form on here to make lifelong friendships and seize the means of production

and immediately realise that the shit you argue about online doesn't matter to anyone around you

its the year 2050. for 10 years your retinal implant has been blinking 12:00 because the company decided to stop supporting it
Mastodon is clearly not an American thing.

If you use Chrome, Google can use a network protocol for tracking and ad delivery that can't be seen or blocked by extensions. TL;DR: You really shouldn't use a web browser made by an ad company.
"AdBlock Plus, uBlock Origin, and other extensions cannot block QUIC requests. Recommended best practice is to disable QUIC from the chrome://flags/ URL."

USB sounds like a backup in case the USA fails.
Discussions yesterday helped us identify several important issues, the culprit of most was a lack of communication; I and a dedicated team of contributors are now working on potential solutions. It has become clear that information does not reach the masses, sometimes not even the contributors: so we want to improve communication here on #mastodon, and off-site (Patreon, Github, Discord etc). We also want to make it easier for you to give your feedback via a dedicated feedback channel/platform.
Thinking more and more about decentralized social networks, I wonder about the idea of simple RSS/JSON based personal feeds linked to personal domains and federating via Websub or similar...
The idea of instances is neat in that it bootstraps community through the local/federal timelines but at the same time it puts a lot of power/responsibility in the hands of admins.
Hmm 🤔
Please, if you're reporting something on mastodon.social:
1) Attach toots so I can quickly see what it's about
2) Add a comment as to why you're reporting so i get some context
3) If the toot/account is not in English, *please* definitely add a comment explaining it in English
We do have a mod who speaks French, and I speak German and Russian, but it still allows us to work through reports faster if they're in English
Hot tip, if you're having trouble getting Docker installed on Ubuntu 16.04 due to repository errors, run the following and start again:
