What to bring when you evacuate

Hey y'all. My family is packed to evacuate at a moment's notice. Maybe you've been thinking about this too. Here's some ideas of what to pack:

Clothes (3-4 days worth)
Water bottles or bladder (3-4 gallons per person)
Portable nutritious food (3-4 days)
Prescription meds
Personal hygiene products
Anything pets or babies might need
Important docs (birth certificate, insurance proof, SS card, etc)
Cash
Battery powered flashlights, radio w extra batteries

What to bring when you evacuate

Charging cables! Including ones for car
Can opener if bringing canned food
Heavy shoes or boots
Blankets, sleeping bags and other comfort items
Hard drives, computers, photos etc
Towels in stuff sacks that can serve as pillows
First aid kit
Means of purifying water
Cooler

Use boxes or rubbermaid tubs to keep everything together and portable, and pack these in your vehicles so they're ready to go. Don't forget to keep your tank at least half full at all times.

Couple more things:
Rain resistant layer
Camp stove, dishes, pots, dish soap
Means of starting fire
Waterproof tarp
Card games, small toys, books to keep kids entertained
Face masks and hand sanitizer

It's also a good idea to make calls, emails, etc to neighbors, family members etc about your evacuation plan and tell them where you will go and when you plan to return

@interneteh Fingers crossed that everything works out safely for you and yours 🤞

What to bring when you evacuate

@erinbee we are fine for the moment. Just, big doom vibes!

What to bring when you evacuate

@interneteh @erinbee The best of luck to you. Stay safe. This is a good list and I agree wholeheartedly.

Over here we had nasty windstorms for about a day and a half starting like, midnight local time Tuesday, that took out power for hours for thousands of people all over the place. Some still had power down until earlier today.

Even though it wasn’t necessary to evacuate it was a “Oh. We got caught with our guard down.” moment. Your toot is a good reminder. 😄

What to bring when you evacuate

@wholesomedonut @erinbee I'm tired of having my guard up, to be honest! But I have people who count on me, so

What to bring when you evacuate

@interneteh @erinbee As a wholesome donut I’m obligated to say make sure to take time for yourself and relax just a little bit. If you have your bug out bags packed and you have a plan, what more can you do? Be sure to take time for yourself and your family to stay sane in between rabid preps for the apocalypse.

My wife had to remind me of this when we had earthquakes for a few days earlier this year. I kinda went overboard on the prep.

Balance in all things. 🍩

What to bring when you evacuate

@interneteh adding chocolate and booze to that list!

I hope you don't need to go, and that the waiting is over soon. It's so hard. 💜

What to bring when you evacuate

@bouncinglime and coffee and tea

What to bring when you evacuate

@interneteh oh dang good point! :runs off to modify bags:

What to bring when you evacuate

@bouncinglime I never go camping anywhere without a french press

re: What to bring when you evacuate

@interneteh
We have been through this many times as well.

FWIW I agree with your list.

While these two links are Australian in focus the similarity makes them at least relevant.

@interneteh I hope you don't end up having to evacuate. Glad you are prepared though.
