So, in the process of migrating my website from Vercel to Hetzner, I was able to do a pretty good write-up of what I did. If anyone wants to follow in my footsteps (or alternatively, point out all the things I've done wrong) , I think it's a decent guide!

@iris_meredith I would really recommend against Hetzner (or keeping good backups on your side if you do use them) but the process should be same for any VPS host.

Hetzner is known for being anti-LGBTQ and arbitrarily deleting accounts with stuff they don't like. Also not defending users from unreasonable takedown requests.

@dalias Oh, FFS. Is there an EU-based cloud provider that *isn't* bigoted? Or does this end with me running my website off a box in the garage?

@iris_meredith @dalias Hmm, if it is just a small / static website and you do not mind sharing compute with other people (i.e., you have a shell on a shared hypervisor that allows you to control your virtual machine), maybe @OpenBSDAms is worth checking out?

@iris_meredith @dalias Most of the providers are more reacting to report volume, rather than report validity. Even worse, most of the small fraction that do ignore spurious reports are of the actually-bigoted freeze-peach type. The garage box (or finding yourself a colo) is going to be the safest way.

@astraleureka Colo? I'm not familiar with the term, I don't think

@iris_meredith colocation, rent a small amount of space in a datacenter where you can supply your own equipment

@chrisvest @iris_meredith @dalias with our new servers we can offer up to a 2 gigabit dedicated link for your servers
