me, every damn day: youtube, show me videos i might want to watch
youtube: hmm. no. but hey, instead, how about some videos you'd never want to watch ever
me: oh cool thanks
@irisjaycomics one of my futile modern beefs is that everyone's so enamored with video that they're making videos en masse for ideas that are, at best, a blog post
@irisjaycomics i guess people are hoping they can monetize it via advertising in a way that wasn't really possible for blogs even in their heyday. but i basically will not watch a video by someone i don't know unless i believe the content couldn't be expressed in another way
@irisjaycomics video essays are the purest representation of a lack of respect for their audience's time
@wolfteeth this is a fucking mood. there are even video essayists i LIKE who could make their points much more succinctly in essays. but Video Is What Gets The Money I Guess
@irisjaycomics @wolfteeth Also there are so many occasions where I can't really watch a video. I only watch youtube when I'm in bed looking for a mindless letsplay and then I sometimes happen to watch other stuff too.
But at work, on the bus, basically anytime I'm using my phone, when I'm actively looking for info on a specific thing, I'd much rather read an article.
@wolfteeth @irisjaycomics I'd argue this depends on how well it's skewed towards functioning primarily as audio and/or the integration of video elements into the whole? I'm actually MORE likely to absorb a video essay since I can pop one on and then draw, or pop one on and let headache medicine start working, or similar things that don't jive with reading a screen. I wonder if one's preferred learning style (instruction vs. demonstration, etc,) influences this sort of thing?
@irisjaycomics you know, I... I find myself drawn to wanting to watch shit like this just because I now need to understand how someone could possibly defend such a take.
But oh gods my youtube suggestions are poisoned to hell any time I even peek at one.
@irisjaycomics oh man i cant wait to find out about how subversively queer it is for a major corporation to hire the guy who directed a bunch of moral orel and robot chicken to adapt another major corporations massive property into a movie for children!
