@angdraug would you cool down please? I don't even know who that Sirota guy is. I'm glad you looked into some of the other analysis, but please do accept people can have different opinions.
I'm not sure if you now believe I might be a communist (I'm not). My "get there" is based on my own transition a few years ago from being infatuated with the Democratic party, and I'm seeing the same patterns in your position. But you're going to be your own person, of course.
@isagalaev No, I don't think you're a communist, capital C or not. I just used it as an example of someone set in their beliefs remaining unable to challenge them their entire life.
I am not infatuated with the Democratic party, merely disillusioned with populists on either end of the spectrum and their false promise of simple solutions to complex problems.
As I explained in yet another Medium article (https://medium.com/@angdraug/cant-we-just-vote-for-the-policies-b4a246cf497c), it is important to know the people, not just their policies.
@isagalaev Thank you. I hope you like it enough to read the rest of them :) Then we can have a discussion about Democrats with more mutual understanding.
@angdraug sorry, I still have a feeling it's you who should read/listen more…
I don't know Sirota (just heard the name), but I'd warn you against seeing too much in it. There are too many pundits, one has only so much time in their life, so I possibly just chose a different set of them? :-)
@angdraug actually, let me amend that. I see you're familiar with all the same political flows as I am (give or take). But the fact that you, for example, are chastising Justice Democrats for their war on establishment Dems is telling me we're unlikely to come to any fundamental agreement.
@isagalaev Maybe. Or maybe eventually you will grow as disillusioned with JD/DSA/etc as you have with the Democrats.
One thing you might still misunderstand about me is that my position on policies is far to the left of what JD/DSA/etc are offering. My problem with them isn't policies, it's that I don't trust most of them to be earnest about it based on my observation of their activities over the past five years. I don't believe in their ability and even willingness to get results.
@isagalaev The fact that you don't know who Sirota is says a lot about how much you don't know about the people who make up US politics. That makes you vulnerable to propaganda. And Sirota is a propagandist: not an analyst, and not a politician. I didn't write an article about him, but much of what I wrote about Chris Hedges in the article I linked earlier in the thread applies to him, too.
I also covered them and some of what we just discussed in this short note:
