Groovy Gorilla it is then… I still remember Gutsy Gibbon, so I guess things came full circle?

Hey programmers!

Anyone ever tried to force the Shunting yard algorithm to work with unary minuses and powers? My naive attempts failed, and searching Internet only surfaced equally naive non-working attempt. I don't want to read the source code of a real programming language for that, surely there's some sane explanation out there?

Thanks!

I went to the dentist yesterday and the hygienist was a Russian lady and I warned her that if my teeth were purple it was because I had borsch for lunch and she immediately was like "борщ?!?!!!!!" in thick accent and started speaking Russian which I do not know a LICK of 😂

I forgot that wondermark did a comic about people who watched the presidential debate

Judging by all the reactions to yesterday's presidential debate, I'm really glad I decided not to watch it. It seems to have gone as painful as I imagined.

Whenever [specially the electron] people talk about "unused ram is wasted ram"

It's already the OS's job to manage system ram, not your program

Stop assuming your program is the only thing running, yes the machine has 16GB of ram, which should let it run many more programs at once, not two or three bloated program

If you are going to use resources, it has to be for something useful like actually intensive work, not just for backing your badly made framework that is idling most of the time

My possibly unpopular view on documentation translations is that they are more of a liability than an asset when you don't have someone whose literal job it is to ensure those translations are always up to date. If something changes and the information becomes out of date it's worse than if you (in the worst case) had to use Google Translate on the page. But it's so difficult to say no when someone's already put their time into translating so I don't know where I'm going with this

I'm excited to share my #apconf2020 talk, "Decentralized Social Media vs the Trolls."

In it, I tell how the #Fediverse, a #decentralized social network, rallied together to isolate an invasive right wing extremist group through codes of conduct, human moderators, and strong moderation tools.

Thanks to @ashfurrow, @emi, @maffsie, @catgirl, @laurelai and all the folks who gave me their time and perspective.

I like this. A CSS library designed to work with plain HTML tags (no classes). It's like HTML pre-CSS, but more attractive :) igoradamenko.github.io/awsm.cs

Have noticed that I've stopped reading any toots that have content warnings on them. Guess I'm of the thinking that they're used *waaay* too much in the #mastodon timelines and I'd rather not spend the time clicking on them to see if the content is of any interest. Anyway, that's my gripe for the day.

Stack Overflow switched to highlight.js meta.stackexchange.com/questio

Would that happen a few years earlier, that'd probably kept me as a maintainer :-) Or may be not. Life was getting pretty busy regardless :-)

"The failed promise of Web Components" by Lea Verou lea.verou.me/2020/09/the-faile

There's a lot I agree with in here. Remember the days of just grabbing a jQuery plugin, adding a <script> tag, and going to town? Those days are long gone, and web components don't bring them back.

After not being able to find any kind of semolina flour in grocery stores around me I went on Amazon to order some. But then I thought I'd rather support the business directly, even if it means paying more. So I went over to Bob's Red Mill web site. They sell it cheaper! The only downside is a shipping delay, but I'm not in a rush, so overall I feel pretty good :-)
