I made an app that lets people share info/search about oxygen, hospital beds, ICUs, plasma donors.

It's often assumed that because Twitter has a larger userbase than the Fediverse, that accounts would automatically get more followers there.
However, many accounts (especially FOSS projects) have more followers here on the Fediverse.
Some examples (as of 26th July 2021):
@fdroidorg has 10.8k vs 7.33k on Twitter
@k9mail has 1.57k vs 680 on Twitter
@Minetest has 1.39k vs 785 on Twitter
If you know any Libre projects that are yet to join the Fedi, please ask them to give it a go!

a brief history:
3 guys create dotCloud during Y Combinator Summer batch 2010
rename to "Docker" and debut at PyCon 2013, released as open source
2014: Windows Server, IBM Cloud, and AWS announce collaborations, raise $15M Series B from Greylock Partners, IVP, Benchmark, Trinity
Federal agencies and In-Q-Tel (CIA) invest and/or maintain contracts since 2016
in 2019, secured $35 million in new financing to restructure
4 months ago, Docker Raises $23MM series B
and finally, today: after granting it admin rights upon initial installation, Docker started asking for $5/mo from me to not install software every day

This tweet was deleted in silent shame, but I feel that it should be recorded somewhere for future generations.
This is a long shot but I'll throw this out here anyway.
I've been looking for a job for over a year and a half and the only employer I've found that would take me in has been Diddly-Squat, Inc. Obviously the pay sucks, and I'm still looking so we can have three incomes around here and have a few luxuries like "unprocessed food" and "clothes that fit without holes."
If you know ANYONE who is hiring remote and pays $15/hr or more I'll take it. My only hard requirement is that it has to be suitable for an autistic ambivert with anxiety (for example, no call centre shit).
My main specialty is sysadmin and programming but I'll do just about anything at this point.
"You can't capture the nuance of my form fields" by Drew DeVault https://drewdevault.com/2021/06/27/You-cant-capture-the-nuance.html
Good post. Although really, this could be said about any built-in HTML element. My mind is still blown by the fact that HTML buttons trigger for Enter on keydown, but for Spacebar on keyup. (And yes, it actually matters if you're implementing your own button using a <div>, because otherwise you can get weird timing bugs.)
"How a Docker footgun led to a vandal deleting NewsBlur's MongoDB database" by Samuel Clay https://blog.newsblur.com/2021/06/28/story-of-a-hacking/
As a NewsBlur customer, I appreciate an analysis like this. I never even noticed the downtime.
Authoritarian governments are appealing to those who think the authorities are going to punish all the people they hate and protect them. Rarely works out that way.
The GOP is a dead party to America. No ideas, no strategies for solving a single real problem, no ethics, no morals...they are dead in all of these areas.
Time for Americans; Democrats, Independents, and those who care about America's future to come together to oust every single GOP member.
All of them need to go.

I don’t understand how Democrats expects to win in ‘22 or ‘24 if their excuse for not passing critical & wildly popular legislation with a trifecta government is a racist Senate rule that Democrats also had the power to repeal but chose not to.

So...I never used Emacs because I've absolutely no use-case for it.
Now I discovered it has LaTeX editing capabilities.
I wanted to learn LaTeX for quiet a while and this could be the opportunity to both get used to LaTeX AND Emacs.
But first I want to know:
Does someone here have used Emacs for LaTeX? How well does it work? Any issues? Would you recommend other software instead?
"International research shows that the building industry produces nearly 40 percent of all greenhouse gases. Most new buildings erected in the present are built for a 50-year lifespan, meaning they will not survive long enough to repay the amount they cost in carbon to construct. Conversely, preserving older buildings contributes to climate change solutions by storing energy (or embodied energy)."
