Well we have made an instance for anyone who wants to exist adjacent to Idle Thumbs stuff. I recommend it! From now on you can find me at @ja2ke!

"If we don't hold Disney accountable for the lack of anamorphic widescreen in Max Keeble's Big Move, we are no better than criminals"

I think the idea that a new Mastodon user is supposed to pick an instance based on affinity/interest is the number one thing that prevents people from joining. I think there needs to be a retooling of the messaging to make it about trust.

People don't join email services because of affinity. They do because they trust. They trust Google will be around for a long time. Or that hushmail won't sell their data. Or that Hotmail is easy to use. Etc etc.

Sorry the only version of that sunset photo I can find is my lock screen. True top shelf content here.

We landed an outrageous apartment when we lived in Oakland - right across the street from Lake Merritt, directly across the lake from downtown - and I miss it (and being in Oakland) a lot.

Being on Mastodon — a far quieter place than Twitter especially for newcomers — reminds me through its quietness, of how little content I create on social media, and how much I consume.

Kids all over the world have been drawing the "cool S", for generations. But where did it come from?

Announcement: I've ported "As the Film Ends", one of my most popular and longest running bots, over to Mastodon. Follow it at mastodon.social/@endingsummary

Ran a live test of my Acrophobia clone on Twitch tonight with 8 contestants! It totally ate shit because something is wrong with my acronym submission validator. It works when I test by myself or with two users but not in a live setting. But... it was fun anyway! Bodes well. twitch.tv/videos/216499988

On Friday my creative tech studio released Shortcut, our podcast clipping and sharing software, as an open source project! Podcast creators, please take a look, you might be pleasantly surprised. We're trying to build for podcasts what animated gifs are for YouTube.

Twitter's tagline "more of what's happening" sounds so funny. Like any of that which is happening is so good that we'd want more of it

My #1 and #2 Mastodon dreams:
1) Ability to transfer your account from one instance to another painlessly as part of the main feature set.
2) Edit button.

A couple days ago this wasn't here, which means in the last 48 hours or so, someone waded out into Lake Merritt to construct this Lordly Bird Perch.

At some point I lost the SCSI hard drive for my childhood Apple IIgs and whenever I remember this fact it is a source of sadness. After that sad thought, here is a video of the Photonix disc copying program by the French IIgs software group and demo scenesters FTA to lighten the mood. youtube.com/watch?v=6-pTW_GlbX
