I'm looking for a free software game with a good narrative (story) or entertaining single-player campaign. Any recommendations?

@SlightDashOfColour I'm talking about FLOSS (software I can freely modify and distribute)

@jackdaniel

Traditionally FLOSS games (usually roguelikes, strat/puzzle games and Wesnoth) have never been heavy on narrative. Or heck, having ANY narrative. If you want narrative, there's usually only adventure games.

Used this before?

Of course people using the engine to create works will still put them under copyright, so it's hardly CC anyway.

You can look under entries for ifcomp.org/

Some of the games might be under permissive licenses.

@vickylai This looks definetely intriguing, thank you :-) I'll check it out in due time. [I like the idea of bubbles making appealing sounds, I've got to that screen so far ;)]

@jackdaniel I made it some time ago for a freeCodeCamp project. Might help you while away fifteen minutes or so 😆

@technomancy Looks a little like a cross-over between Warcraft2 and Warzone2100 (at first glance ;-), thank you.

@grainloom I saw the video – look intriguing (kinda reminds me singularity given the "hacking" principles)

@ptolemeaus I've really enojyed Thief series. Last time I've checked The Dark Mod didn't have decent campaign with a narrative telling whole store (more like a lot of skrimish) – did it change in the meantime? I've check out the rest, thank you!

@jackdaniel
Hmm I played dark mode a view times, you really have to search for nice stories but some a for a open source game really good.

We need to carch some writers for the Foss community 🤔

@jackdaniel IMO, you could try . You will enjoy because it has a good storyline and an hardly single/multiplayer sessions.
