it's sad how independent record stores have all closed down. i have fond memories of going as a child so some pedantic dickhole employee could offer 100% unsolicited opinions on all my purchases.

today's kids will never know what it's like to have their subjective tastes criticized by snotty, hip misanthropes. πŸ˜” πŸ’Ώ

anyway, what's happening on social media this morning?? 😏 πŸ–₯️

@CyclopsCaveman

this is just too preposterous to countenance, even as a bit!

@jackdaw_ruiz you're right, discipline is just too good to besmirch like that

@CyclopsCaveman

i was about to make a blanket defense for latter day King Crimson before realizing the most recent album i have actually listened to is like 15 years old now.

statistically speaking they probably suck now. but i am a big Tony Levin fan. dude is in that area of being simultaneously over and underrated.

@jackdaw_ruiz assuredly their live stuff is still good. i'm almost done listening to their studio stuff since it just hit apple music, and it's been a trip

@jackdaw_ruiz
I went into a record store and bought a Vista Chino album and asked if the guy had the new PJ Harvey that came out the week prior. He said that he didn't and that the Vista Chino album was way better than whatever PJ Harvey released recently.

Like dude I was trying to buy both, and you haven't even listened to it yet.

Shouts out to Rock Of Ages, Garden City MI for keeping up the record store spirit

@jackdaw_ruiz on the other hand, sometimes there are cool dudes, like the guy who saw me at 13 buying a Green Day CD or whatever and showed me the punk-o-rama 2 comp that was only 3 dollars and changed my life

@laser

oh, yeah... i can think of a couple of compilation albums that did a lot of heavy lifting for introducing me to stuff in those days before modern intarwebs.

@laser @jackdaw_ruiz also nice sometimes to ask "I like X, do you have a recommendation?" and they do

@jackdaw_ruiz
My town's record shop is right across the hallway from my housing co-op's office. Sometimes they bring us beer 🍻☺️ no idea how they stay open though

@steven

lol if they're chugging along, i wouldn't question it.

@jackdaw_ruiz there are like three record stores in walking distance of my house. do not doxx me.

@jackdaw_ruiz I'm doing an overnight shift, and showing a lot of appreciation for the refresh button.

@jackdaw_ruiz the youth of today are learning to be rude to eachother on line, instead of in stores ! i am upset

@jackdaw_ruiz This toot...really went in the direction it needed to go.

Solidarity (from someone buying glam rock music in the late 90s).

@jackdaw_ruiz haha kid put that pop trash down and listen to these instead

[hands you three copies of OK Computer]

@jackdaw_ruiz walked into a record store a couple years ago and the dude working there immediately asked "what kind of music are you into?" ....the nerve!!! i just said "i dont know" and left

@peemobil

how many years was it?? the statute of limitations may not have expired and this monster can be brought to justice!

@jackdaw_ruiz thankfully in my town there are enough small live music venues, i can get my fix of non-stop cocaine-fuelled musical snobbery and i don't even have to buy a record, it just comes for free

@jackdaw_ruiz @jacethechicken I too have fond memories of being able to pick any record or cd off the shelf and have them play it to my hearts content, being able to arrive with an album and ask for similar artists to be given a list of similar tracks from various cds they had in stock. It was good times. It’s a shame how both functions have been replaced by things like Spotify - at least it’s cheaper.
