I've seen several people say that Wil Wheaton's explanation of the whole list incident isn't adequate or sincere enough, but there's no way to measure that. To be honest it seems like there is no way he could explain or apologize "enough" to satisfy the mob. So the rage just escalates with every "unsatisfactory" response.
I'm as nervous to express my honest beliefs, thoughts, and opinions here as anywhere else online after seeing the way Mastodon users can pummel someone that offends.
I really, really hate articles that end with some variant of "But what do you think? Let us know in the comments below!" or "But in the end, the best <thing> for you really depends on what you want to do." I'm not saying you have to flame anyone who likes a different window manager or video editor, but it's OK to just say you think something is the best choice.
This is now the advertisement for Mastodon.

@irl with the documentation the original IBM PC came with you could essentially build the computer from scratch, even had commented BIOS source code.
You: Why can't you do the SIMPLEST thing???
Me: Uh, because the simplest thing is recursively composed of even simpler things, and those are super complicated. You want me to do a quark? Or a gluon? Well... i cant. It's impossible. Because of quantum physics.
You: I was just ASKING if you'd taken out the TRASH
Me: But trash is made of LOTS OF GLUONS and they're really yucky ones.
Generic Epipen finally approved by the FDA
After sleeping on it, I think #Mastodon should rename ‘instances’ to ‘Communities.’
Instances feels too technical and I see even savvy people struggling to understand it.
I argue communities would make much more sense. It denotes much of the purpose behind _why_ this service has different instances, and many people will already be familiar with the concept from Reddit (the, what, sixth most popular site on the net?).
@Tom It's that old parable: sell a man an iPad, you can support him for a day. Sell a man a WinCE thin client through three layers of RDP that run a CLI on AS/400, and you can support him for a lifetime.
