@nathanpitman Ah okay it just started me off following randos. Got it. I really don't like the UI - it's very TweetDeck like (which i hate), and the Mac clients are pretty grim. Sad. Coulda been interesting.

@jackmcdade timeline on the left of the screen is who you follow, on the far right you can choose to see 'local timeline' which is everyone on the same instance as you. 'Federated timeline' is 'everyone on every instance'. You can also choose to filter the timelines you view down to specific languages...
