A couple months ago, I started experimenting with my own Mastodon instance and at the same wondered, “Why bother? I’m better off on a larger server that’s more likely to stick around, anyway.”

Fun thing is, now that I’m trying out different approaches to the IndieWeb, I feel almost the complete opposite. ’Cause it’s my site, I guess, that I—and no one else—hacked together. And tools that aren’t nearly as widely used.
