Hey there #Mastodon !
I just published a comparison of my favorite, #free, typefaces for #coding https://jdsalaro.com/blog/best-programming-fonts , let me know what you think
@jdsalaro Very nice, thanks for making this!
I tried out all options and I'm actually happiest with my current font: Hack. :)
Thanks @fidel ! Hack is a great font IMO! However, right now I'm enjoying having Fira Code on the editor and Input Mono on the command line !
@jdsalaro I came across 0xProto about a month ago and have been loving it as a font. Ligatures are there but still show distinct characters. Your demo of fonts in one place is neat.
@Danwwilson 0xProto looks really well made, I'm trying it and enjoying it; I'll add a mention of it during the weekend to the post !
@Danwwilson I just added 0xProto :P
@jdsalaro nice presentation and analysis.
I've settled on JetBrains mono mostly.
@bdarcus I really like JetBrains Mono as well, my only pet peeves are as mentioned it's `l` and the curly braces which I think aren't curly enough, but other than that it's awesome!
@jdsalaro since it's release in 2017 (i think?) no list is ever complete without the ibm plex family:
one doesn't have to love it, but it's impossible to ignore how complete those fonts are, how much attention to detail went into delevoping them, and how they continue the distinct ibm'ish tradition of quality.
@tivasyk I'm sure I had read about Plex at some point, but I wouldn't have mentioned it off the top of my head; thanks!
@tivasyk , @birnim@fosstodon.org and @thees@emacs.ch , I added Iosevka, 0xProto and Plex. Feel free to check it out and let me know what you think
@jdsalaro this is really great comparison, got to know many new fonts.
Personally I’ve been using Fira from long time, it have really nice ligature.
@guptarohit sure thing, my pleasure !
@jdsalaro I still haven’t found anything that beats the 9x15 bitmap font. Sharp as razors even at small sizes.
