@stonith @jenn (this isn't followed by an implicit "ya dingus", sorry if it reads that way. I just find it surprising how simple it is)

@jenn raw cashews are great for making milk, no straining required

cnpol, xinjiang, mass surveillance

"Xinjiang really shows how privacy is a gateway right, where if you have no privacy, that’s where you see that you have no freedoms as a human being at all. You don’t have the right to practice your religion, you don’t have the right to be who you are, you don’t even have the right to think your own thoughts because your thoughts are being parsed out by these incessant visits and incessantly monitored by surveillance systems, whether they’re human or artificial, and evaluated constantly for your level of loyalty to the government."

Excellent reporting by @yaelwrites

Looking forward to the extremely ethical next 4 years

"within months of retiring from the Pentagon, Austin joined the board of weapons maker Raytheon, a company that makes bombs that the Saudis are using to inflict tremendous death and suffering on the people of Yemen ... [he has] investments in the private equity fund Pine Island Capital Partners, a private equity firm that specializes in military contractors"

@gamehawk I get the sentiment but like, no.
The fire did down a bit, though.

your periodic reminder that you can do anything at zombocom, anything at all @ritochan @geotechland @Gargron

Let me guess what's next: certain reviled regimes actually had some good economic ideas? Maybe certain historical genocides are made up?

US Politics

When I saw people insisting that the DC insurrection was the work of "rioters" and "terrorists", I thought about saying something about how that's not a helpful tactic. Here's why. This will ultimately end up targeting the disenfranchised and not the white millionaires who arranged and attended the insurrection.

uspol, twitter video

@darius Well, it's important. Maybe it's misleading, but it doesn't say the Capitol *building* in the tweet. And arguably that makes it worse since the Memorial isn't a seat of power. But point well taken.

So yeah USPol is pretty :fire: today, remember to CW your toots

and take a break if it's getting overwhelming. You don't need to watch everything.
