Surprise! When you force Big Tech to do the right thing, it turns out not to be such a "world-ending" event as they'd like you to believe:

"#Apple is opening up iPhones and Macs to at-home repairs. The company plans to start selling parts and tools and offering instructions on how to repair Apple products at home, without having to bring them into a store or a third-party repair shop. Apple plans to start with the iPhone 12 and 13, followed by Macs with M1 chips."

A small victory: An hour after we sent a cease & desist letter to 's legal team on Oct 21 regarding their failure to publish up-to-date source code in compliance with Mastodon's AGPLv3 license, they have uploaded a new version.

That is not all that we demanded in the letter, but it is nevertheless a victory in upholding the AGPLv3 license of our project, and a signal to those who doubt that we are willing to show teeth to those who ignore it.

This is the payoff that Trump was looking for when he started dragging Zuckerberg, Dorsey, and others to the White House for bitch sessions. Even if they never personally agreed with him, the constant pressure was enough to get them to stay their hand when it came to content moderation.

I have to say, it's pretty great how:
A) The Fediverse is quick to block Trump's fork and instance of Mastodon that violates the AGPL3 licensing
B) Said licensing violation might result in yet another lawsuit against a looney and
C) Hacktivists were quick to find a way to claim 45's handle

#Signal is seeing an uptick in new users! Come on in everyone, come on in.

This whole article reads like a rant from an upset admin who had their keys to the entire castle revoked by a valid Info Sec process. I only say that because I've observed almost verbatim whines in person.

CDA230 is among the only good technology laws the US Congress ever adopted, and without it, no one would ever host your complaint about a business, your #MeToo whistleblowing, your negative reviews or your images of official corruption or police violence.

Freedom alone was never enough. For freedom to be worth anything you have to care about people, understand their experiences, know the limits of your own perspective. You have to understand the ways in which people are vulnerable where you are not.
Freedom that doesn't care about other people is simply Ego.
