Quick - I'm an artist, soon to be self-published writer, and musician. None of those pay the bills (yet), but hopefully someday! I'm happily married, 40 years old, and have lots of dogs and cats that will probably get featured here.

My main reason for being on Mastodon is to meet new people with similar interests, swap ideas, techniques, etc. I'm new, so let me know if there's anyone I should look up and follow!

To the American fellows outraged by the Supreme Court's decision: you already know what to do.

Don't vote the GOP in November, and make sure that nobody in your circle votes GOP.

Dems are far from perfect. Biden is far from perfect. But at least their goal is not to take a whole country back to the Middle Ages.

Their goal is not to deny all the rights to any non-white non-Christian male.

Their goal is not to turn their country into an anarchic Far West where everybody has the right of shooting on anybody else, even if that means that kids in school have to get used to the presence of heavily armed officials that are supposed to protect them.

Their goal is not to decide what other people are supposed to do with their reproductive organs.

Their goal is not to deny any form of support to those left behind, so even the most mediocre Christian white kid has better chances in life than the most brilliant hispanic or black kid.

Their goal is not to deny affordable healthcare, overturn democratic elections or turn their country into an anarcho-fascist dystopia.

In other words, Dems deserve a lot of criticism, but they aren't the nihilist, ignorant and bigot jerks that Republicans represent today. So if you want a better country, just make sure that Republicans won't get a single seat for the decades to come.

I was going to post some new paintings, but that doesn't feel right today... The Supreme Court decision is an elephant in the room that just s*%t on the rights of all women. Can't ignore it.

I had a long, awkward, frustrating talk with the kiddo last night about all of this. I'm sure there's a lot of that going on today. It's really easy to look at the world and find it hopeless, but we can't give up. Hate and fear are unsustainable - Love always wins in the end.

I've been trying to finish up my current novel project for a while. It's taking way more effort and time than I hoped, all my other projects are on the back burner for now... but I'm really happy and excited with how it's turning out. About 10k words to finish it, I'm guessing. So close to done!

So, I live in a very conservative area of a very conservative state. We were the only house in the neighborhood flying a Pride flag this month... until a crazy storm came through and literally snapped our flag pole in half. That bothered me, but I'm sure a decent chunk of our neighbors didnt mind its absence...

For about 24 hours.

I'm happy to report it has been repaired and is even taller now!

Never put too much stock in the Bechdel Test, but my curiosity got the better of me, so I examined my 20 stories with it. The results? Kinda interesting.

I wonder if there is any visual arts/painting/drawing/illustration #critique group on the Fediverse, or any artists who are looking to be part of one (students planning to go pro, beginning professionals, seasoned professionals)

#MastoArt ?

Here's an update on my (two) current - They're not quite done yet, but they're getting there!

Hi fediverse! Boosts appreciated on this one.

I’m part of a co-op building a platform for artists to sell art without getting exploited. I’ve been working on it for a while but there’s a lot of work to do and I could use some help. A ton of the main features are in place, but there’s still some big gaps and a lot of polish left before it can launch.

The platform is fully open source and developed in the open. It’s built on Phoenix/Elixir and Tailwindcss. Our co-op is already incorporated and established and it’s open to members that want to actually commit but you don’t need to be a member to contribute or help.

Does this sound interesting? I’d love some help! I’m also happy to answer questions. And no, you don’t need to know Elixir already. It’s pretty easy to learn for the things you’d be using it for. Even some design help would be welcome. Feel free to reply here or DM me!

So, it's been a while since I've written a scary story, most of my recent work is more comic adventure, and I forgot what it's like...

Until I was writing a scary scene, by myself, in an empty house, in the middle of the night...

I guess if I'm giving myself the creeps that's a good sign for the scene.
