It's kinda weird to think about a social network where businesses own their own presences, rather than relying on a capricious third party service like Twitter or Facebook. Imagine NBC or The Verge running a Mastodon instance for their reporters to toot from, or Bethesda operating an instance for PR and customer support. No more lost business when Facebook changes their algorithms again because they need more money from boosted posts.
So evidently as part of just having Firebase run in Tusky, it has analytics enabled. I hadn't taken a close look until now.
It's anonymous data but it has things like country of origin, how often the app's used, and age & gender. I assume the last two it gleans from the google account logged in on the device, but I'm not sure.
Anyhow, I'm not comfortable with it and it's worth mentioning.
Think it needs to simplify it's language in places though. Using words like "federated" will hurt mass adoption.
