As long as it's May 20 anywhere on Earth, you can still submit a proposal to the US CFP! There's still time!

If you proposed a talk to @PyGotham@twitter.com, @PyColorado@twitter.com, @PyOhio@twitter.com, or @py_bay@twitter.com last week, there's a good chance it would fit in at @djangocon@twitter.com too.

I've voted on a decent chunk of the @PyGotham@twitter.com 2019 talk proposals so far, and I really like what I see. I think you will too, and you should help the program committee select this year's talks at cfp.pygotham.org/vote.

The whole process takes many weeks, and I like to think that it improves everyone's experience. So thanks again to the @PyTennessee@twitter.com program team that gave us this:

I was talking with a friend a few days ago, and they were surprised to learn just how much goes into conference talk selection. Beyond voting, there's a lot of work that goes into selecting complementary talks and balancing community input against organizer experience.

I missed the talk at the conference, but I had some time to watch it on Friday. You should definitely take some time to learn about one of the weirdest things people have created for plenty of valid reasons and what you can do in Python to make working with them not a hellscape.

I've spent some time reviewing @PyOhio@twitter.com talks this weekend. I've upvoted almost every one of them so far, so I'm not sure how useful my reviews are from a talk selection standpoint, but I do know that this is going to be a great schedule no matter what gets picked.

So many talks don't get picked because of lack of time in the schedule rather than lack of quality. Don't let that discourage you, and remember that the organizers don't want to reject your proposal. Talks can't be selected in a vacuum, so good ones regularly don't get picked.

RT @judy2k@twitter.com
Also, if you submitted, and you *don't* get picked, then try again next year (or at another conference). You were probably close.

Don't be like Fry. Well, dress like a clown or whatever, who am I to judge? But definitely vote.

Watching the series finale of Happy Endings on Hulu, after which it starts autoplaying The Handmaids Tale. On top of these shows being totally unrelated, the titles are (I'm hoping) not a message Hulu wants to be putting out there.

To rephrase this in a more positive way: conference organizers want you to attend and do their best to make that possible. If you can't afford it, you can probably get a free ticket by speaking, volunteering, or just asking for one. We tend to be a welcoming crowd.
