I still don't think we talk enough about how Sweet Home Alabama is a deeply racist song which needs to stop being played at sporting events down here, as well as just generally. It was conceived as a response to Neil Young singing of racist legislation and hate crimes in Alabama

@smelley Young's self-critique of his own follow up song notwithstanding, Southern Man is a great song that goes hard and Young had nothing to apologize for.

@smelley Sweet Home Alabama has been sports arena beer commercial fodder for pretty much as long as I've been alive, whereas "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" by The Band actually makes me sad to hear because I find the melody beautiful and want to rewrite the shitty apologist lyrics to be about melting down confederate monuments to make pipes for low income housing and burning every stars n bars flag that isn't in a museum.
