Yes, `CLI interface` is technically wrong, but `CLI` or ´command-line interface` are substantially harder to read/understand.

Same reason we say PIN number instead of just PIN.

@juliank I disagree with your generalization. "command-line interface" is not harder to understand than "CLI interface", in my opinion.

My experience: In most cases, abbreviations make a text harder to understand. Exception may be when the abbreviation is more common to the individual reader than the long form.

@marian Well I find that CLI is more common than the long form - in writing.

@juliank More common perhaps, but not necessarily easier to understand or to read.
