You know instance admins can read your direct messages in the fediverse? Twitter and Facebook also can - and sometimes do - read your private messages, and they have infrastructure to comply with law enforcement requests. I'd love to see some end-to-end encryption built into Mastodon clients.
It's snowing out.
The Intercept is now a unionized workplace with the Writers Guild of America! #InterceptUnion
"With official hostility to core First Amendment principles reaching a fever pitch, it’s essential that we unite with our colleagues in other newsrooms in order to protect our values. Unions have long played an important role in holding governments and corporations accountable. It’s only fitting that we should carry on that tradition at The Intercept."
Folks in academia in particular - please #standwithCEU, a Hungarian/American university in danger of being shut down by Hungary's right-wing government: https://www.ceu.edu/category/istandwithceu

Can I get some folks to share my pro-bono offer?
I will set an org up with their own #mastodon installation, see my post for details:
Six reasons why mastodon will fail - Mashable
1. I don't understand federation
2. I don't understand federation
3. My friends don't understand federation
4. I don't understand federation
5. I dislike the slang for things on Mastodon
6. Maybe there should be a tutorial on mastodon explaining how federation works and how to find people so that people don't get confused like this as much
When people have accounts on more than one instance, should I follow them both?
Random thought:
I think federation of a social service, where independent instances cooperate to create a larger community without an overarching administrative entity with a corporate goal, may be conceptually difficult for some people because of the accepted norm that the role of a user is customer and/or product.
The idea you're a person, not a brand, is gonna be unfamiliar territory in some circles.
Hey, did everyone see this?

(BTW, I used https://mastodon-bridge.herokuapp.com/ to find a lot of my twitter friends's accounts here)
Ok guys, very funny.
The @Support account is official, a couple dedicated people helping users with questions (I do not personally post from it though)
this is an excellent point about one advantage of decentralized systems that i hadn't thought about: https://icosahedron.website/users/chris_martin/updates/9678
Hey mastas and mastos! If you care about decentralization and encryption we are holding workshops and conferences at Centre Pompidou on May 5th. We are still confirming speakers but expect great talks! register -> http://nextleap-launch.eventbrite.com/
Wesh, les mastas et les mastos. On organise des ateliers et des tables rondes portant sur la décentralisation et le chiffrement. Ca sera le 5 mai au centre pompidou. Viens, on sera bien http://nextleap-launch.eventbrite.com/
