My experience of mastodon: diving through a trapdoor into a poorly lit space and gradually discovering how big it is and how many other people are also sheltering in here, and how the one thing we have in common is human.
Given the intense focus on identity as divisive at the moment, this strangely anonymised space for meeting people according to their thoughts alone feels rare and hopeful.
@katebowles I like the way you can respectfully disagree on here. You can argue on the edges of something without being castigated as an enemy. There is an appreciation that there is an imperfect human being behind the words, who is trying their best to make their way in the world.
Discovering thanks to @taniasheko that this is what I thought a year ago when I first came in.
And I still think it. This is rare and hopeful and I am here for it.
