Have you guys tried TasksApp by @nigeldgreen
It's a Task Manager/To Do online app that works really well, is clean and clear, mainly uses a single-screen, easy to use and fast.
No fuss Task Management. Using it for Libreture work.
Might pick your brain about charging at some point. I need to plan it out before I have my next promo push so I don't get caught out with something I can't maintain.
Thinking about paid hosted / free self-hosted, or maybe a paid 'team' account as I've had a couple of enquiries about that. I like the idea of individual subscribers being subsidised by corporate ones if I can make it work.
Oh crikey! Yes, work it out first!
Discovered some interesting things with Libreture that might help (for you to ponder in your new job... ).
User Effort
If a person can simply sign-up and use your product, then a trial period works fine. They can poke around, use it, "kick the tyres".
But if they have to do some work themselves, such as collect together and upload their own e-books (just to pull an example from the air), then that's more work for them to do to test it.
30 days isn't long enough for them to do that, and they may consider not even trying it if they think they won't really be able to put it through its paces.
So, I'm working on a free tier, based on storage space, which means readers can really try it out, invest with no thinking of cost, and really see what they think.
They can take their time deciding.
Good luck again! 🍀
That sounds like a good plan. I might opt for a 200-actions plan or similar - free to use as long as you have less than 200 live actions so light users can use for free and only need to pay if they are getting real use and value out of it.
Definitely good food for thought - cheers!
That's a great idea.
It creates a bit of momentum and interest, which pushes word-of-mouth marketing.
Thanks Kevin! Glad you like it :) I'm just doing a big refactor at the moment ahead of some new features coming in so will need to get on with doing better promotion at some point.
Am moving jobs next week so have had to put some subs on hold until I see how it pans out - have had to cancel Libreture unfortunately, but I'll be back when I know how things are going to pan out...
No problem at all there, Nigel. Hope everything's okay. Give me a shout if you need anything.
Good luck with the new job.👍
@kevinbeynon @nigeldgreen well I *just* finished setting up a command-line task manager (TaskWarrior) - otherwise...
@kevinbeynon @nigeldgreen LOL - could be confusing. It has such pretty colors too...
Will look at this for my laptop. That would be cool.
That's what your missing, Nigel. Colours!
Wow! Holy cow, there's graphs!
@kevinbeynon also a script-mode and server mode
Now you're just showing off. ;)
@kevinbeynon hey, *I* didn't write it. Also I dropped Nigel out of the convo since I'm not trying to piss on his product...
Aaaaah. Sorry. Misunderstood.
The colors comment did make me laugh though 😆
And you should have seen it when I did try and add some extra color in to the UI - needed welding glasses to shield your eyes whenever you hit the home page...
I used taskwarrior before I built out tasksapp. The CLI bit really appealed to me (and the stats!), but it was ultimately harder to just do what I really needed to (track tasks without needing to tend the system too much). I reckon it would have got quicker once I really got it in my fingers, but was just too much resistance for me to really click with it.
@nigeldgreen @kevinbeynon yeah, I'm on a bit of a CLI-binge right now. I'm not really sure why exactly. Tasks, ebook server, zsh, kakoune (text editor), sc-im (spreadsheets) - all inside a Quake-style dropdown using Tilix...
It's interesting, isn'it. I wonder if it's a response to lack of control through web apps.
You've reminded me of that article about 'bandwidth vs resolution'. Bandwidth being effort put in and resolution the granularity of the result coming out.
@donblanco @nigeldgreen @kevinbeynon I'm a taskwarrior fan too, although I also use taskd to synchronize multiple devices (even my android phone via the TW app). Nightmare to set up, butter-smooth once done.
Back on-topic (and forgive if this is already done...) but *please* include a wait-until / show-from field. In my experience nearly all hosted task platforms don't have this, but it's essential. No point seeing all 300 of my tasks if 120 aren't relevant now...
@gwmngilfen yeah, I just tried setting up taskserver - wow. What a clusterfuck that turned into. I've given up on that one for now...
@donblanco hit me up if you feel like giving it another shot, i'm sure I can dredge up some notes and/or sample configs from my server ;)
@gwmngilfen @donblanco @kevinbeynon
tasksapp has full support for dating tasks. Default behaviour where a date is set is to show it in your agenda as 'coming soon' a couple of days before it is due, then move it into the 'do now' section on the date you specify.
Will be adding a feature soon so users can set their visibility prefs for all dated tasks.
@nigeldgreen @donblanco @kevinbeynon ooh, nice. Now I want to go register, even though I already have a to do system set up ;)
@nigeldgreen
I'd pay to use this. Annual fee or something?
