for years "mods are asleep" has been a joke relic from the forum days but the fediverse brings us to an era where the mods can let you know that they're awake by boosting your "mods are asleep" joke and then you can scold them to go to bed because you know their timezone and this isn't healthy

My post on the Mozilla Hacks blog was just published! "Identity for the Decentralized Web with IndieAuth" https://hacks.mozilla.org/2018/10/dweb-identity-for-the-decentralized-web-with-indieauth/

If you're at #iiw today, I'll be at demo hour showing how this works!

@strypey @bhaugen indieweb is built around urls more than domains on the whole, though there are some domain-centred assumptions. A subdomain model (like Blogger) works well if you're making a service for people

@strypey @bhaugen also, I'd encourage the use of the protocols too - adding rel=me and microformats-2 markup is the baseline, handling websub , sending and receiving webmentions, enabling posting via micropub. They're all complementary.

I think it is time to re-read A Group Is Its Own Worst Enemy: shirky.com/writings/herecomese

»the group is real. It will exhibit emergent effects. It can't be ignored, and it can't be programmed«
»The constitution is always partly formal and partly informal. …The informal part is the sense of "how we do it around here." And no matter how is substantiated in code or written in charter, whatever, there will always be an informal part as well. «

@kaushalmodi @Qwxlea a webmention handler isn't much code itself, but you need a microfromats parser to make them meaningful. my quick and dirty python one: github.com/kevinmarks/mentiont

@Qwxlea @kaushalmodi for lifewithalacrity.com I used webmention.herokuapp.com (It shows them with js) see lifewithalacrity.com/2016/04/t for a post with mentions. That's a decent starting point before you move to building them into the pages

@kimau this is new one I made because the old one was lost in the weeds about compromised instances. DO please upvote or comment

@kimau not quite, no they now let you choose an account to redirect to, but your followers don't get redirected - see github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/

@maiyannah there is a use case for it.
If I reply to someone, but want to bosst both that and my reply, it works then.

So if I redirect my account, I can still toot here?

@fordie I'm doing it manually at the moment; my twitter posting rate is low right now. I might set up fed.brid.gy/ at some point

does Mastodon still post to Websub endpoints, come to that?
