Do you remember how a Python crypto package requiring #Rust was reported as a disaster filling landfills with abandoned computers, because Rust didn't support s360 and hppa platforms?
Here are Debian stats for these platforms:
They've logged 8 users of each these platforms. Eight.
These platforms add up to one tenth of one percent of Debian users, by most generous interpretation of these stats.
@kornel BRB gonna buy me a multimillion dollar mainframe and download Debian for it.
(Also, notably, there are more hppa and alpha users than itanium 🤣 )
@kornel aren't these just the users that have a certain package installed, not *all* users on those platforms?
@kornel case in point, I use Debian Hurd (which is listed as having like 20 users?), and I don't think I have the popularity-contest package installed
@bugaevc It's a sample, but still shows a tiny tiny percentage compared to mainstream hardware. If you opt-in, you'll increase Hurd's market share by 5% ;)
@kornel right, great idea. Done that, now let's see how much time it takes for the page to update with the new data
