In case it's not clear: I will never sell your data or give this instance to someone who will. You all are my *family*, and I protect my family.

If for whatever reason you *didn't* trust me, I'd rather give the SSH keys to someone you did and give up the instance than keep being admin.

Can't wait for Hack in the Box next week! I'm speaking twice, once on RISC-V security models, and another time on remote Erlang compromise. It's going to be a fascinating week and I can't wait to see everyone :-)

Although it's not possible to browse the timeline of a #Mastodon instance where you don't have an account (unfortunate IMO), it *is* possible to visit, e.g. https://mastodon.social/tags/topic to see public posts tagged with a particular #hashtag, in this case, "#topic".

Could be interesting to compare music tastes, for example, between different instances before choosing one to join.

The new car smell will wear off. But this has been a nice trip back to when the internet was experimental and exciting and maybe a little more innocent. I know that's a hopelessly naive "feeling" I have about it. But Mastodon, whatever happens to you, thanks for the little shot of whimsy and networked joy. It's been awhile since I've gotten that communal internet feeling!

About risk profile:

- Mastodon is like email because you can't delete federated toots
- Mastodon is like twitter in that Google's search bots index it, unless your admins robot.txt it away
- Mastodon is like being a teenager because the people that own your instance can see all your private stuff

Have a talk with your admin about their policies.

By default, assume everyone will be able to read your toots forever.

I guess there's some simple and easy way to migrate an account from one @Mastodon instance to another, right? Like, if I launch my own, my account can be migrated on it?

I feel like I should buy the new Mastodon album because those poor dudes are like 'Why is everyone talking about us?'

Mastodon should have an Unsubscribe option for threads where you no longer want to be tagged, and the other recipients on that thread have to adhere to your request. Wouldn't that be nice?
