@nolan Also you can use GNOME Web (a.k.a. Epiphany) and just use “Install Site as Web Application…” from the menu. Works like a charm, and the app does not even need to be a PWA, nor be sanctioned by any big company to be turned into a self-contained application, with its own page cache, browser history, cookie jar, local storage, and so on :blobaww:

Whenever someone uses the phrase “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again”, this is what my brain is doing for the next 5 minutes:

Code dump:

I was trying to get Steam Linux to do hardware video encoding on my Radeon, but the Radeon turns out to be old enough not to have any hardware video encoding. Derp. 🤓

Hah, so I’m apparently “privacy’s enfant terrible” now 🤷‍♂️

(The “light entertainment” is a reference to the sarcastic opening line of my talk; dinner was served with a side of cold hard truth.)

Aaaah, know what's fun, trying to do some hardware video encoding, writing a bunch of C code to do it, then finding out your target hardware DOESN'T do ANY video encoding. 🙃

I fed over 8,000 CNN Business headlines to a neural net to see which new headlines it would predict.
For some reason, it predicted companies behaving rather badly.

It's finally here! Version 0.1 of #WriteFreely, the federated, open source version of @write_as 🎉

Then head over to our guide to get set up:

Thank-you to the wonderful folks at VPRO Tegenlicht for a thoughtful and critical look at (and beyond) precarious work and platform monopolies (“the gig economy”) in their latest documentary.

You can watch the whole programme (in Dutch with some interview in English) at:

when the boss tells us to deprioritize fixing tech debt "so we can ship more product features"

Stared at IDA all evening, trying to figure why this (proprietary) app is not loading my version of a library. Only to find out, at the end, a header was sabotaging symbol names in my own exports. 🤨

We are preparing to release federation support and we want your feedback!

Can you think of any safety, privacy or security features that we haven't announced or already support?

We appreciate any ideas/feedback that can make :pixelfed: more safe and secure.

please participate in my survey concerning fediverse software development.

it will help to influence how Pleroma and other fediverse project development is done in the future.

please also consider boosting this, so more people will take the survey.

Semi frequent reminder that if your shutting down your instance I’ll take it over for free (or even pay you a nominal fee). I want to keep as many independent fediverse communities as possible. #mastoadmin

@tootapp I really like the little directional arrows in the ‘show more’ timeline break. And the instance switcher. And how the instance switcher remembers that I was on Home on instance A but Local Timeline on instance B. And what about that sick conversation branch display!

The UI in @tootapp is some sort of witchcraft, really amazing. It looks beautiful, it’s playful, but not obnoxious, and it gets so many little details right. Not just right right, like, better-than-iOS-Twitter right! 😯
