Let's see my Mastodon instance now just needs some different rooms for categorizing the conversations (and a few novelty rooms like Endless Story), a whole pack of local nerds most of which are poly or just promiscuous, and some door games, and PRESTO: I'M A BBS SYSOP AGAIN.
Thing about capitalism I like:
* local empowerment and decentralised decisionmaking via the marketplace, everyone is their own boss, no masters
Thing about capitalism I don't like:
* tendency of capital itself to centralise means that in practice there is no marketplace, just an increasingly small group of increasingly powerful investors and executives who overrule all local decisionmaking by monopolising resources
Capital subverts markets. That's the core contradiction of capitalism.

Oh one thing that's changed is that the sub- sub- sub-dependencies for web pages now take as long to compile as the kernel did 20 years ago.
I started using linux 20 years ago and the problems are all the same. You can do neater, newer, way more complicated stuff, for sure! But the process of slamming your head against an ever-shifting labyrinth of dependencies and hoping someone else has already asked and answered your question to make it work appears to still be required.
I followed like three separate how-tos—I don't think any one of them had ALL the information I needed. I mean, it's still broken, so...
I set up a broken masto instance and I kinda really like the gif and don't want to fix it.

Concepts I acknowledge but nevertheless take issue with:
• the finite, isolated nature of consciousness
• the arrow of time
• an outer bound on the amount and frequency of dessert I should eat
