I'm just getting started with #WSL and I am reluctant to upgrade to #win11 to get the GUI. Would you recommend?
Also, what is the difference between using the #CLI wsl command and downloading the #Linux distro via Microsoft Store? #Ubuntu 22.04 is available in the store, but not via CLI. Is it safe to use the store? (I want to be able to use #python 3.10 and it doesn't look like it's available in the Focal repo.)
the thing about human rights is that they are, by definition, inalienable. rights are not special benefits granted to us by the government, they are inherent to all of us as human beings. governments might abuse, deny, violate, restrict, or otherwise fail to recognize and protect our rights, but those rights don’t just vanish.
you’ll see phrases like this all the time: “women won the right to vote,” “the board ruled that the employees have the right to unionize,” or even worse, “same-sex couples were given the right to marry.”
no. the government didn't “give” people new rights they didn’t have before, they decided to stop violating the rights that people have had all along. big difference.
Hmm. Bioshock Remastered keeps crashing on Windows. I don’t know where to start troubleshooting.

What I'm reading right now. Interesting that the author is comparing a language translating service to the Tower of Babel, but it makes sense in terms of so many of us use words in completely different ways, then wonder why we don't understand each other.

Our brains literally evolved to NOT pay attention to boring stuff
We are forced to do boring things because that keeps other folks wealthy
The reason why you want to do hobbies all day is that you were supposed to be an artisan
Artisans were once seen to be the clearest sign of civilisation, not a burden
We have enough food now that all humanity could master the lyre
But we have chosen coin
and coin does not sing
@feditips If I'd like to post pictures, videos, and books, can I do that all from my server, or do I need to have a profile on each of the other servers? Are there features I'd miss out on by not signing up for the separate servers?
Gross. Spying and reporting on your neighbors and no exception for rape or incest.
There are currently 419,000 kids sitting in foster care, waiting for a home.
How many will there be next year? A million? And the year after?
Why haven't these 'pro-lifers' saved all the kids that are ALREADY BORN?
Oh yeah, that's not their problem.

One of the unexpected joys of the fediverse over other places is the addition of weird domains appended on to everyone's usernames.
It makes the web feel like more than just four websites again.
It's both a signal of a smaller more intimate internet and also a larger and far more diverse internet at the same time!
How to make me weep with passwords in 2022:
Have a maximum length shorter than 128 characters.
Not have a minimum length.
Filter what characters can be in the password (except \0, not allowing \0 is fine).
Require periodic password changes.
Send me the password in clear text in email after registration.
Send me the password - or any password - in clear text after requesting a password reset.
Have the option to reveal the password after registration.
Disable paste.
