working on ideas for a new family of cellular automata. i want to do systems which read relative, rather than absolute, neighbor states as i think this would result in some interesting and beautiful organic behavior.

i am wondering if this approach would result in too many local systems which self-reinforce and end up not changing over time, i.e. there is change in /values/ but not change in the way rules apply


but also the arbitrary rule i ran manually tends strongly toward this, so i think i'll test this out digitally with a variety of rules and see what happens.
