"It's perfect, it's passion, its setting me free
From all of my sadness
The tears that I've cried, I have spent all my life "

"To become more than a sergeant? I don't consider it. I am a good sergeant; I might easily make a bad captain, and certainly an even worse general. One knows from experience." — from Minna von Barnhelm, by Gotthold Ephraim Lessing

Different strokes for different folx.

So, like, let's get some more different strokes goin'.

“2000 me: Wow you still work on the web, that’s amazing. It must be so easy to publish really interesting web pages.

2020 me: Uhhhhh. [Very long pause.] Look, you can pay a low monthly fee and listen to any album anyone ever made.

’00: That must create some amazing opportunities for musicians!

’20: Well.”

The wildflower honey from Rosewood in Niagara is remarkably good, smooth. So pleasant to have a little with breakfast these past few days.

COVID-19, mental illness

‘Marshall's sense of smell and taste also haven't been the same since she had the virus. And she has "brain fog," which makes it hard for her to find the words to carry on long conversations.

COVID-19, mental illness

"Although the coronavirus was initially thought primarily to cause respiratory distress, there is now ample evidence of many other symptoms, including neurological, cognitive and psychological effects, that could emerge even in patients who didn’t develop serious lung, heart or circulatory problems."

What if we put A Cyberdemon's head on top of a salaryman's body!

It'd look something... like this!

The COVID-19 bill is released and hidden in it are two *enormous* copyright provisions; the Tillis bill that creates a jail felony for streaming infringements, and the "CASE act" that creates a totally new low-friction DMCA-takedown-like court that can levy five-digit fines for…well, pretty much anything, without the checks on abuse a normal court has or (to my read) adequate notice to targets they were even sued.

These have real potential to harm average Internet users.

@jplebreton @lucasrizoli The Telltale CSI games let us pinpoint the transition. CSI: Deadly Intent (2009) gives you a PDA, CSI: Fatal Conspiracy (2010) gives you a phone.

I dig when games justify their in-game UI and map with some diegetic bit of tech that, with time, seems quaint and off from our current smartphone-centred present.

@lucasrizoli hmm does the sheika slate count? I guess at what point does a PDA become an iPad

@lucasrizoli STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl was 2007, and I think the two sequels also gave you a PDA

@lucasrizoli The Cyberpunk TTRPG calls all handheld computers “Agents” in its text (presumably from PDA derivation). I was disappointed in Cyberpunk 2077 to find it was just labeled “Phone” in the UI and haven’t heard any character yet refer to one as their Agent.

Was DOOM 3 one of the last (big-budget) games to give your character a PDA?

Show thread

Games no longer give your character a PDA within the first half-hour.
