I may pick this project back up if I ever find a use for it and open-source my private GitHub repo that it lives in.
Really though, it was a C library disguised as a native Ruby gem.
I went as far as to begin work on a Ruby gem in my own time which used stb_image to read the source file and use a constant header. However, I never got the images as small as the FB team (200 bytes).
I love this engineering blog post by Facebook and always wanted to implement this while working at Realtor.com: https://engineering.fb.com/android/the-technology-behind-preview-photos/
@ironfroggy in QBasic, it was SCREEN 13, followed by particular (quite limited) graphics commands -- not nearly as low level. I never learned about real Mode 13h programming until I hit the internet. Growing up, my dad only owned a QBasic book which was all I had at the time.
It is proven! I am luten on Keybase: https://keybase.io/luten/sigchain#8519a57004fabd060f39d124c22734b6a245ccffdcb1fc8cebccef0c071e078b0f
@N4vn33t I like it because of the tiny form factor (originally got it for my Raspberry Pi), but the speed sucks. Maybe it's time to upgrade to something more serious or just wire this box up via Ethernet.
@N4vn33t sure, here's the lshw dump:

Though, I'll say that I use Ubuntu full-time and only boot into Windows for particular games that don't run on Linux.
So, maybe it really is the Year of the Linux Desktop -- as long as you have a bit of a technical background?
@bin0p Not quite so early, but I've been slowly pushing back my wake up time from 9:00 AM to 6:30 AM now.
I like having 3 hours before work starts to walk/run, read, catch up on news and articles. I don't think I'm necessarily much more productive, but doing these activities during a time when I'm not tired after a day's work is certainly beneficial.
Reading "Why We Sleep" and slowly evolving a proper routine has changed my behavior for the better, though.
@zacts same as of July/August. If the friendship is worth it from either side, it will remain. If not, it wasn't a friendship to begin with.
@fribbledom drinking tends to do this to me. I get irrationally introspective and either get very uplifted or melancholy depending on the stimuli.
