In my opinion, GitLab issues is good forum, and fediverse is a good platform for announcements, promotion and discusion not focused on development.

We also have already the Matrix chat

I'm not sure if Friendica has forums / discussion groups, but that is an option if you want your forums in the fediverse. I am using Hubzilla, and Hubzilla forums are a very popular feature.

Thanks for this information, I haven't had the chance to use HubZilla yet, I'll have to see how it works.

@m0bi Both Hubzilla and (modern) Friendica are forks of Free Friendica, so they both originate from the same code base. It's been 11 years though, so they have developed in different directions.
