A bunch of Swedish MEPs pressed the wrong button in the Copyright Directive vote, defeating the chance to vote to delete and .

Well, that’s quite the mandate to fuck with millions of Internet users.

It’s my upbringing, but my second thought after having to go for A LONG WALK, was: holy shit those MEPs must be feeling awful right now.

@mala I can't help but feel a little skeptical. All of them voted the wrong way? What are the chances? And then to make, effectively, a non-binding post-facto statement & correction so they come out looking clueless rather than evil, and the whole thing gets blamed on parliamentary procedure or some such. Seems like such a perfect way to have cake & eat it.

@waider @mala This. So very this. This was not a mistake, but something all politicians do when they choose against the common good: come up with excuses to save-face.

"Oh, woe is us, for we were in error/misled/influenced to select the wrong choice. Please have sympathy for us!! And after we're done with our totally sincere and heartfelt apology, please vote for us again!!"

@waider
Also happened with a #Portuguese MEP, Fransisco Assis of the socialst party. But the news was that he was able to ammend his vote from 'yes' to 'no'
@mala

@mala Yikes! Thanks to that, the rest of the world must think of the possibility similar laws are going to happen in their respective nations...

@mala they counted them again properly and still lost by one vote sadly. 314-315

@mala Like we didn’t have enough reasons to hate Sverigedemokraterna…

@Fergant

@mala You'd think they'd have a confirmation dialog or something. Or a 2nd button, if it's a physical thing. Shouldn't be possible to f@%k the entire internet by mistake. That's possibly the worst user interface in the history of users or interfaces.
