This was a pretty intense experience, plotting out the opportunities and risk scenarios for the next 10 years for EFF, Internet Archive, Wikimedia and Mozilla guided by @LHWilkinson . The raw materials don't really capture all the conclusions we came away with, but if you have any questions, I can try and answer them here: http://blog.archive.org/2018/05/08/the-future-of-civil-discourse-four-scenarios-imagined/
@mala @LHWilkinson I wonder how these compare to Berkeley's Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity scenarios
https://cltc.berkeley.edu/scenarios/
Those don't have the same dimensional organization, but some of the dystopias sound similar.
They do indeed seem resonant (maybe not so surprising, as many of the CLTC folks are old friends/colleagues). That said, the Civil Discourse scenarios reflect the concerns of the people who built them-- so as one moves from describing the futures toward implications, the Civ Disc scenarios begin to diverge (or maybe better said, acquire a more idiosyncratically-specific specific focus).
@mala @LHWilkinson I love four-quadrant Scenario Planning.
Gives you a real feel for the uncertainty of the future but also that you could maybe do something about it.
