i'm Mike. been computing since the early 80s. internet focused since the 90s. first wave "tech evangelist" in the 2000s.
written lots of books and articles, given my fair share of presentations.
before tech i was a full-time musician and studio arranger (70s & 80s). uni time spent in music school.
when not prattling on about tech, i like to hike & bike in the Kentucky wilderness. spend indoor time listening to jazz, reading books, and watching old movies.
hit me up anytime.
@mamund Nice to see you here Mike! It's been too long, at least 1 pandemic ago.
@usarid LOL. yes, it was <some-diseases> ago that we talked.
hope this toot finds you well.
@mamund All's good, watching with fascination this kickstart of decentralization, while working on a startup, https://otterize.com, for intent-based access control (IBAC).
You're not one to REST either, eh?
@usarid IBAC sounds interesting. and the timing couldn't be better, eh?
i continue to putter around and explore the same themes i've wrangled for the last couple decades.
i, too, am appreciating the swing back to decentralization.
@mamund I have a feeling those themes never go stale, my friend.
Regarding the timing, it’s luck, but I’ll take it. Regarding IBAC, I want a lot more of the world to be intent-based, not just access controls or K8s pods.
@mamund Long time listener, first time caller :)
Here I was just following you for your books and Podcast with McLarty. I had no idea you were a musician, though it seems fairly common in our profession.
While never a full-time musician like you (70s/80s!?? Heady musical times my friend), I was lead trumpet in jazz band in HS and Uni and had the opportunity to play with Ed Shaughnessy and with Woody Herman and the Thundering Herd.
But some of my fondest jazz memories include sitting within spitting distance of the Dave Brubeck quartet, Spyro Gyra, and Chick Corea at the Blue Note in NY in the early 90s. Dave’s band was LOADED with talent and they’ve always been among my favorites.
