There is currently a problem with the Object Storage from OVH that is used to serve media files for Masto.host and this is affecting both loading uploading of media.
They are already working on it: http://travaux.ovh.net/?do=details&id=47465&
Sorry about this. Hopefully they fix the issue soon. I will post here when I know more.
The upgrade is installed. All Mastodon servers on Masto.host are now running v3.2.1
Any issues please let me know. Thanks 🐘
I will be starting the upgrade for all Mastodon servers on Masto.host to v3.2.1
There should be less than 30 seconds of downtime during the process.
You can see the changelog here: https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/releases/tag/v3.2.1
Any issues or questions please let me know.
Maintenance finished and all systems are back to normal. Any issues please let me know. Thanks 🐘
At 6:00 UTC tomorrow (in about 6 hours) there will be an interruption of service to do some maintenance to a server rack.
This interruption should affect around 20% of the Mastodon servers hosted on Masto.host and is estimated that the downtime will be ~15 minutes.
You may follow the progress here: http://travaux.ovh.net/?do=details&id=46483
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Patch is installed. It all looks good from my end but if you have any issues please let me know.
There was an issue that affected a couple of Mastodon instances hosted on Masto.host where federation stopped working.
I am going to install a patch to try and avoid it happening again. It will require a restart but there shouldn't be more than 20 seconds of downtime.
I believe the issue is the similar to https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/issues/9362 but caused by the code introduced on v3.5.2 related to the new audio upload.
All instances hosted on Masto.host are now running Mastodon v3.2.0
Any issues please let me know.
I will be starting the upgrade to Mastodon v3.2.0 for all instances hosted on Masto.host
There will be a downtime of about 30 seconds during the upgrade.
You can read the release notes here: https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/releases/tag/v3.2.0
PS: ♥️ the new audio player
The traffic filtering is still on but the attack looks to have slowed down and everything should be back to normal.
Please let me know if you are still experiencing any problems.
Thanks and again sorry about any trouble.
For the past 20 minutes someone has been trying to run a DDoS attack on Masto.host host servers.
The traffic is being syphoned to avoid a full disruption of service. Meaning that each connection needs to be filtered before reaching the server. So, it is possible that some users may experiencing some connection delays.
Sorry about that. I will let you know if I have more information.
These changes for processing videos and GIFs are now active for every Mastodon server hosted on Masto.host.
There have been no reported issues and from the backend it all looks good. Also, no peak load monitored on the platform. So, up until now it looks like a good solution.
Again, if you notice any issues with federated GIFs or videos please let me know.
I will be testing some custom changes to reduce platform load caused by processing videos and GIFs.
This will be a gradual rollout and it will be reverted if any problem is detected.
There will be a downtime of less than 30 seconds during code change.
Please let me know if you run into any issues with federated GIFs or videos in the coming days.
You can read more details about this test here: https://masto.host/custom-processing-of-videos-and-gifs/
And it's done! Every Mastodon server on Masto.host is now running v3.1.5
It all looks good but any problems or questions please let me know 🐘
I will be starting the upgrade to Mastodon v3.1.5 for all servers on Masto.host
There shouldn't be more than 30 seconds of downtime.
You can view the release details here: https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/releases/tag/v3.1.5
I have decided to introduce new plans for Masto.host: https://masto.host/pricing/
This change will only affect new subscribers.
If you are already using the service, nothing will change, same pricing and conditions will continue to apply.
I offer some details about the change here: https://masto.host/new-2020-plans-for-masto-host/ but do contact me if you have any questions.
Upgrade is done. All servers hosted on Masto.host are now running Mastodon v3.1.4
Any issues please let me know.
I will be starting the upgrade to Mastodon v3.1.4 for all instances hosted on Masto.host
The downtime should be around 30 seconds.
You can read the changelog here: https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/releases/tag/v3.1.4
I did some changes to the SSL configuration of Mastodon servers hosted with Masto.host - permanently disabled TLSv1.0.
This should only affect someone using a really old browser version (and you should upgrade for your own security) or a third party app that uses TLSv1.0.
Please let me know if you get any TLS/SSL/Certificate errors.
The Qualys SSL Lab report should return A+ for every domain on Masto.host
