@mcc i have a desperate urge to become cozily load bearing

@mcc I saw an "aftermarket" GIF someone made of the actual physics modeling simulation of the collapse

I wish I could find it easily again

EDIT: it is a reply to this, I found it

@grob I mean it was the same thread you posted, you were really close!

@jhwgh1968 wut?! And I didn't even scroll down! Anyway, there you go! :blobcat:

@mcc The missing bit is empathy.

@dana @mcc I thought the empathy bit is bit 70 in the TCP header?

@mcc I like the illustration, but I had the feeling that the left side fell away and the right side stayed

@leberschnitzel @mcc

If you look at it from the image's perspective, the right is the side that stayed. The left has been removed.

I wish everyone on the right to get everything they say they want. Everything. I want to watch the world burn down around their ears. They'll have no one left to blame. No one center, either. It's all just them.

@mcc uh oh did the guy maintaining that one project die?

@jaykass @mcc
Probably just left Nebraska for somewhere better and there was no one else to take his place.

@jaykass @mcc
Well, they improved after Brownback was gone, but then reelected Kris Kobach as AG, so I’m going to have to go with no, somewhere better than that too. 🙂

@mcc gonna tip disastrously to the right

@mcc I'm happy to report that we live in a world where we don't have to entirely depend on this whole stack. It's possible to have sovereignty still! Unfortunately nobody seems to want that :(

@mcc I love it.

Is this in reference to a specific event that I’ve missed news on or just everyone’s general outlook on the year?

@mcc@mastodon.social

I usually see this in the context of the us-east-1 AWS region.

@mcc also a bunch of it is on fire

@mcc this image feels surreal as fuck

@mcc ah. so the world right now is like one of those trick photographs where they used a fast shutter speed to make it look like things are floating in air, and moments later they come crashing down horribly. welp

@ireneista @mcc that's every instant of existence

locally, the earth and moon dancing at a speed just at the bottom edge of human perceptibility, while the events of our lives, pinned to the surface by gravity, trace a knife's edge path atop mountains of improbability, infinite alternate universes excluded at every moment, with quantum indeterminacy preventing even theoretic path prediction at the finest edge.

What were the odds of your haploid cells meeting, and surviving? Etc.

@datum @mcc yeah a dream within the fragile bubble some call reality, and all that

@datum @mcc but, more volatile than usual right now ><

@mcc One of those artificially evolved robots that moves fast by breaking things.

@mcc This definitely feels accurate after two of my favorite android apps - Syncthing and Password Store - became unmaintained recently.

@mcc stability is only possible with a weighty left.

@mcc idk i think a structural engineer should look at this.

@mcc Looking at this feels exactly the way I feel when it's my turn to have at a Jenga block 😃

@mcc *message from corporate*
"We had to remove the human at that level, cause all they did was standing there with their hands against the roof."

@mcc We are aware of this tech debt but there is not time to fix it before the next feature deadline

@mcc

"We don't need a roof
Let the motherf#cker burn.
Burn, motherf#cker, burn!"

@Evan Prodromou So that one guy in Minnesota stopped maintaining that critical piece of open source software that holds up the entire computerized world. I guess someone should have sent him a donation.

@mcc wait wtf happened to FFmpeg?

jk, but seriously, wtf happened

@mcc @rmondello I see a great opportunity for a small software company, where are they?

@mcc
Looks like Jerry retired...

@mcc Wha.. what happened to that one dude in Nebraska? 🥺

@mcc
Can't really boost this enough. Pre 2025 was with the widget, post 2025 is without. I do believe this year is what will go down in what's left of history as when it all changed, forever.

@mcc @briankrebs The random person from Nebraska stopped maintaining his project
