I have a hard time finding people on here. I remember the bird site being a little like this when I was starting out. Not sure it was quite this hard tho.

@mdesjardins The lack of recommendations ("hey, you should follow so-and-so") might make it tricky.
I've found that joining multiple instances can give a better view of different subcommunities. Not just the local timeline, but even the federated timeline, which reflects the tastes of folks on that instance.
I have like 5 accounts on 5 different instances and will probably make more.

@mdesjardins I feel it. I never actually got past that phase on the birdsite and it's kinda the same for me here, but the community as a whole is pretty enjoyable so it works out.
