For the record there are no co-founders of Mastodon. Not in a startup way (it's not a startup) nor in a development way (I started the project on my own)

Antonius M. boosted

I'm only saying this because I've seen someone claim to be a Mastodon co-founder, not to toot my own horn.

Anyone know an artist looking for commissions? Looking to commission the following piece:

A pride of cats playfully threading through the feet of a rampaging herd of mastodons, while a coven of witches flies overhead and some furries in spacesuits play brass instruments to the side.

Tentative title: The Fediverse

@rey This is you, right? (if it's not, I'm fairly certain your reaction will be "who is this weird person" rather than "oh, yes! Yes it is"
<.<)

We're finally back on Masto! Sorry for being so absent, everyone.

Now that there are so many new people, I wonder if there are any new systems?

When in doubt, CW.

If someone asks you, CW.

If you hesitate at all, CW.

It's one click. And it helps keep this amazing journey we're all on amazing for all of us.

@spiderrobotpig cause the ability to surprise ppl w/content that, given an informed choice, they'd prefer not to see right now, is core to the viral mechanic that consolidates social media influence? ppl whose entire persona is "exploiting brain glitches for attention" don't like having to ask first :-/

re: CW discourse Show more

I will just never understand how "Click the tiny fucking CW button and mention you're talking about current events so your don't trigger PTSD or anxiety attacks in random people" is a goddamn divisive issue.

Just fucking CW your politics posts or go back to fucking twitter.

I'd even disagree with "Even if you're just venting", and say _especially_ if you're just venting.
Some people will want to read it, and they can open up to get the full post. Others don't, and this way we can all be mindful of each other.

Antonius M. boosted

It is that easy to tag your politics posts, so please do that. Even if you're just venting.

It's not censorship, OK? This stuff is depressing as shit for a lot of us and we're not here for it. We'll all deal just fine if you put your vents behind a cw, thanks

If your main concern about Mastodon is that instances (or mastodon.social specifically) might actually ban racists... like, bye

I guess that if I want to be really inspired by mastodon, they'd have to speak something with french tones >.>

I'll ask here as well!
What kind of language should my genderfluid, nitrogen breathing alien speak? It's mainly relevant for names, since the narrative is still written in English

I super agree with @optimajohnny .

Talking about politics is fine. However the biggest reason I've enjoyed being here rather than Birdsite is because this place feels so much more positive.

I checked Birdsite this morning and got really down after reading it for a while.

However the discussions are important to a lot of people, and sometimes I'm okay to read it. The solution here is marking politics posts with a content warning. :)

Antonius M. boosted

Seriously can we please go back to tagging politics because I am so tired and I don't want this to turn into Twitter where you log in and it's 50 posts about what the fuck some republican did last

Friends, what should I name the personal assistant/body armour/space suit/symbiotic lifeform that my character (also unnamed) has? Their ship (who was killed in the crash) was named Xailith

Oh, this is a pretty annoying bug - a boosted mid-thread toot doesn't inherit the original connections. It's just a standalone toot and you can't find the rest of the thread from it (unless you browse through the author's feed).
