I never know if I *should* google an author whose work I've enjoyed, or if I should *never* google one. 馃槶

I've liked this author's work a lot, but the first thing I see when I check what they've been doing for the last 3 yrs is a huge rant b/c someone asked that they CW their work, plus a long thread of people (mostly) cheering. All standard shit: "triggered", "millennial", "snowflake".

...I should probably google authors. Or at least not ignore what I find if I do so.

@melissaaveryweir I hear this.

So far there is only one author I have sworn off of completely because of stuff that wasn't in their books.

Unfortunately, I have found that situations like this, the shitty stuff the author says end up showing up in their books in one way or another, so I usually end up giving up on them anyway.

@jessmahler That's a really good point. 馃 It's been a few years since I read their books, but it's military-ish sci-fi, so that stuff was almost definitely there and I overlooked it or didn't notice it.

@melissaaveryweir I understand if you don't want to say, but curious which author this is, since I've read quite a few from that sub genre

@jessmahler Sara King. Self-published sci-fi series writer = a formula for being my jam, generally. ^_^

albeism by an author/self pub vs trad pub and spoony

@melissaaveryweir Not one I've run into before.

I sometimes feel bad for not reading more self-pubbed writers, but while there are plenty of great self pubing folks, weeding them out takes either social connections or spoons. both of which I am usually low on. So I only turn to self pubbed when tehre is nothing worth reading in a given genre from trad publishers (so mostly romance)

@jessmahler 100% agree--the weeding out process is tiring. And that's how I usually get my romance books, too! 馃槀 Self-pub has done wonderful things for that genre.
