I was on Radio Dispatch a few days ago talking about the science of IQ!

No, his name is Eldrond Hubbard, and he fights against Sauron, not Xenu.
The two types of people who know what Patreon is:
1. Supports a few creators for a few bucks a month each, feels kinda guilty for not pledging more
2. Scoffs at the idea that "people" who "make things they like" require "funds" to "live"
@shel @melissasage Remember those times when computer engineers (and engineers in general) actually paid some thought to reliability? Like when we invented a universal transfer protocol that could work over anything including literally fucking messenger pigeons?
@melissasage lmao the startup ppl like "do you even NEED a real cell number anymore? Just use wi-fi calling!" like honey I have wi-fi at home, mostly, and at work. Wi-fi calling isn't gonna work anywhere else I don't even have cell service when I go to synagogue or when my bus drives around the mountain through some farms in my commute
@melissasage OMG #1. Scribd has the WORST "offline" reading feature because it tries to connect to the site before/while opening your offline book. Shockingly does not work in the subway.
@melissasage That first one bites me in the butt all the time.
And a couple of addendums to that first assumption: that everyone has a reliable and fast mobile or WiFi connection (hahahahaha) and that everyone has a high mobile data cap and so is fine with apps using huge amounts of mobile data (nope, and that's why I always need options to dramatically reduce data usage like turning off media preloading).
3. The assumption that every place you go will be far enough away from each other that location-based services will be able to tell them apart.
tfw language glitches and becomes a series of indistinguishable phonemes but you kinda like 'em just happening at you
as someone who lives in NYC, I'm constantly thinking about how a lot of shitty tech follows (white, Silicon Valley) Californian cultural norms. two big examples
1. assumption that you will always be outside and in a place with a good network connection. this renders a huge number of mobile apps unusable on the subway, even when there is no good reason to need to be online
2. driving detection, and the assumption that you both have a car and are using it if you're going fast

KERNEL PICNIC
It's just really fucked up people look at self-driving trucks, automation, and go "ah, this is a bad thing because it puts people out of work. it is the technology that is the problem" instead of realizing that it's our insane mentality that you have to work 40 hours in order to deserve living that will hurt people in the end
Did you know Terpenoids are one of the largest families of organic molecules generated by organisms. They include familar chemicals like, Menthol, Cholesterol, Estradiol, and others especially in essential oils... Terpenoids are built on Terpenes which are hydrocarbon structures generated from Isoprene.
@tcql big disadvantage of federation: i wanted to tag you in that post but i couldn't remember what instance you were on, and all the ones i found you hadn't used in ages
