On the ominous side, we appear to have a slowly expiring, sick and/or wounded animal in our back yard of a type which can be quite vicious if cornered. A call to animal control is in our future along with the possible challenge of them transporting it through our apartment once caged since we don’t have garage access.

On the positive side—and perhaps I've watched I, Claudius too many times—I think Trump's gonna lose, folks.

Up above my normal eye level, on the landing of the rarely used back stairs down from our upstairs neighbor to the small back yard, is a furry gray lump. Squinting, I can see faint rising and falling of its breath.

File under curious portents, I guess, but an…uh…ominously positive (?) omen has shown up on our back porch.

Last night the motion light turned on and I peeked out to see a very rotund raccoon with a heavy limp out there. Odd but not that weird for a Northern California city back porch.

This morning I’m working at my desk and something tickled my peripheral vision...
